Can give you a scare,
If you sail off your bike
At high speed.
But it's gravity's tug,
And the long furrow you dug,
That causes your
Elbows to bleed.
The things you discuss,
When mildly concussed,
Can be amusing
Or somewhat disarming.
While the skin on your knees,
Will flap in the breeze,
To complete a picture
Altogether alarming.
Minor contusions
And blood in profusion
Aren't things that
Most cyclist's like.
Hitting the dirt,
Sometimes will hurt,
When you don't stay attached
To your bike.

Richmond, Virginia, to bid for 2015 UCI road world championships

2007 U.S Open of Cycling
Richmond was the finish city for the 2007 U.S. Open of Cycling, won by Svein Tuft.
Nearly 25 years after last hosting the world road championships, the United States appears set to pursue the event for the 2015 season.
VeloNews has learned that Richmond, Virginia, will announce on Tuesday its intention to submit a bid to host the 2015 world road cycling championships. A source close to USA Cycling told VeloNews that former Tour of Ireland promoters Shadetree Sports are the organizers behind the prospective event.
Shadetree principal Darach McQuaid would not confirm that his firm is involved, but did tell VeloNews that, “I am in Richmond… I am delighted to be here.”
In a media announcement Friday, USA Cycling director of communications Andrea Smith said that Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones would make “a very important announcement that will have the eyes of the sporting world focused on Virginia’s capital city.”
The notice goes on to say that, “this cycling announcement will officially launch the city of Richmond’s bid to host an international cycling event that has not been held in the United States in almost 25 years.”
The United States last hosted road worlds in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1986. Vail, Colorado, last hosted a UCI championship with mountain bike worlds in 2001.

Whoah….that sounds cool. Richmond? Weirdly, it is turning into a very hip bike town. The North American Handmade Bike Show was there in 2010. Hope they get it.
